Granada´s gypsies
Well Granada is home to the Alhambra (Charles V´s living quarters, General life-which I believe are gardens, and an Alcazaba) but for five of us it will be remembered as the place were Gypsies jumped us in front of the Catedral. Jenny had just stopped to withdrawal money at the ATM after purchasing a beautiful pink blanket-tapestry. We were going to buy ice cream to hold us until dinner at home. Anyway we pass by this church and women are standing outside with small green branches. They grab your hand and begin pointing and telling your fortune. There really isn´t time to think and you have become acostumed to odd things happening around you and just going with them... you are also not guarding your belongings as closely as you were that first week. Anyway these women separated us and after the happy future was given they begin expressing the need for payment, wait a sec. So I pull out my wallet to fish for some loose change (0,80€) but then they spot the 20€ and demand 5€ for each hand. Nick, Natalie, Jenny, Katie and I discuss it afterwards quite shook up from the experience. Nick and Natalie got out first and began checking their bags to make sure valuables were still there. The women seemed capable of violence. Our leaders later gave the advice: be agressive, NO. We are all okay but they got about 31€ from us. Jenny said she was prepared to be all New Jersey agressive and take them on. It was an experience to tell your children someday.

This experience ranks up there with Sarah's last year in France when the guy yanked her (new) camera (bought just for the trip overseas) right off her arm and ran away, second day there. Quite a shaky time, and Mr. Tim doesn't feel real happy about the French ever since. But alas, we are thankful you did not get hurt and of course that Sarah and Hayley did not either. Godspeed!
